A Standing Ovation for LJ Hooker
Peter Baines not only continues to astound, move and motivate our clients with his keynote presentations; he helps raise funds and awareness for his charity Hands Across the Water. Pete’s message was completely relevant and especially poignant when he spoke at the LJ Hooker Real Estate conference in Thailand recently. The delegates of LJ Hooker personally contributed over $100,000 to Peter’s charity: Hands Across the Water. The amazing thing about this is the delegates weren't asked to support Hands, it wasn't scripted it was just an emotional response to the messages and reflected the wonderful, generosity of the group. EVERY single cent raised will go to the children in the orphanages. Hands Across the Water is Australia’s fastest growing boutique charity supporting the children in Thailand who were orphaned by the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami; it is currently shaking up the charity sector having raised over $2.5 million (AUD) without spending one cent of donor’s money on administrative costs since its inception four years ago. All costs that are incurred in the running of the charity are absorbed by Peter and other Board members. |

FROM COMFORT TO CHALLENGE Presented By Afterburners, Mark Bragg & Martin West
Good questions move people from their comfort zone to their challenge zone. In recent years we have come to understand that perhaps the single greatest tool you have as a leader, manager and coach to bring improvement - is the question. Being able to ask constructive but incisive questions is the art of coaching improvement. Managers sometimes feel the need to instruct and tell, rather than to lead. Certainly there is a time for instruction and direction, but asking good questions can make a huge difference to how people approach their performance and the challenges they face. We have often been both frustrated and saddened when we see good people in teams with potential go through the motions with little change to the team dynamic and no one challenging the norm. They are well and truly planted in their comfort zone and in this environment improvement is unlikely and outstanding performance almost impossible. Yet so many times we have seen a room light up, a meeting become interesting and people become engaged just because someone dared to ask a question and challenge the norm. Dare to ask - How can we do this better! From there anything is possible.
